
Jan Hage (1964) had his first organ lessons from Kees van
Eersel, whereafter he studied musicology at Utrecht University, organ (with Jan
Welmers) and music theory at Utrecht Conservatory, and church music at the
Nederlands Instituut voor Kerkmuziek. He earned diplomas for music pedagogy and
music performance (with an annotation for improvisation) and the
Praktijkdiploma Kerkelijk Orgelspel, all of them cum laude, the diploma for
music theory and the title of doctorandus (master) in Musicology. For a period
of two years he studied, withe help from the French government, at the
Conservatoire National de Région at Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris: organ
(with André Isoir), composition, electronic music composition, and
orchestration. His organ study was rewarded withe the Premier Prix à
l.unanimité du Jury.
He won first prizes in the Nationaal orgelconcours voor conservatoriumstudenten
at Leiden (category 20th century), the Nationaal Orgelimprovisatieconcours at
Bolsward, the Concours Suisse de lÓrgue at Schaffhausen, and the Premier
Concours de l'interprétation de Musique Classique at Poitiers.
In 2006 he was decorated with the silver medal of the Société Académique
'Arts-Sciences-Lettres' in Paris.
Jan Hage gives many concerts in Holland and abroad. and is also active as a composer. In 1995 he was appointed organist of the Kloosterkerk in Den Haag.
